Indigenous team wins plate at women’s sevens

MARCH 11: The National Indigenous team finished a creditable fifth out of 12 sides at the women’s rugby sevens championships in Canberra last weekend. In the plate final play-off for fifth, the National Indigenous team defeated a young Barbarians side 33-5, thanks to tries from Simone Smith (2), Leilanie Andrews, Taleena Simon and Emma Young and four conversions by Tallisha Harden. Queensland Red won the championships, defeating NSW Blue 19-0 in the final.
