Burney takes job to heart

Incoming Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney is not mucking about.

After again winning the inner southern Sydney seat of Barton in last month’s election for the Labor party, Ms Burney, a Wiradjuri woman, said Labor would get on with the job of implementing the Uluru Statement from the Heart. 

“I think it’s going to be a defining moment for this country,”she told the Koori Mail.

“I think it’s going to be a lot of very hard work. I see my role as more of a consensus builder, reaching across parliament, First Nations communities and organisations. 

“If you read the Statement from the Heart right through, the last lines invite the people to walk with us in a movement for a better future, to start this trek…
