Derby pride as Warriors, Wizards win
Small-town Derby is the big name in the west after the Kimberley town’s senior and junior teams won their respective divisions at the Barry Cameron Memorial Carnival in Perth.
The annual event celebrates the life and enormous contribution Barry Cameron made to basketball and Indigenous youth.
Organised by Raiders Basketball Club and Binar Sports, the event brings together some of the best Indigenous teams from across Western Australia to the state’s capital, some travelling thousands of kilometres, like Derby, 2400km away via the coast, or 2200km via the inland route.
The Derby Wizards juniors and the Derby Warriors seniors were the undefeated stars of the show, going through their respective divisions without a blemish.
Derby Warrior Fabian Johnson was the grand final MVP and runner-up MVP for the carnival…
