Garbutt in the top five at Goldfield Ashes

GARBUTT Magpies’ women’s cricket team were one final short of taking out the biggest tournament of its kind in Charters Towers in north Queensland recently.

The Indigenous team from Townsville claimed third place out of 24 teams in their particular division at what is Australia’s biggest annual cricket carnival, the 2024 Goldfield Ashes tournament, held from 19- 21 January.

A massive 234 men’s and women’s cricket teams across four divisions played out the locally famous ‘Ashes’ event at 70 grounds including at parks, schools, an aerodrome reserve, part of a golf course, and on private properties.
