Kalkadoon sisters do it together
One of these Kalkadoon sisters – Jaunita, Dale, Cheryl or Glenda – started painting one day, and because they always do things together, they all painted.
Now they have Cungelella Art and fashion label Myrrdah – and showed their first collection at Fashion Week in Sydney.
“We’re that close that once one starts something, the other ones start something,” Jaunita said.
“It took a long time, especially over COVID, that delayed a lot of things.”
She said it all might sound simple, but it wasn’t. “There’s a lot behind the scenes,” she said.
“We’ve started the label, we’ve got a website, so you can buy it online. “Essentially we put our artwork on linen, now you can buy our artwork on clothing.
“So it’s wearable art. There’s a heap of work that goes into that, to get that little collection up and running – working out pattern sizes, working with pattern makers, picking something that will fit…
