Troy is the Golden Boy
THE Golden Boy Troy Cassar-Daley took home three trophies at the 50th Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth recently, smashing Slim Dusty’s long-held record for most Golden Guitar Awards won in a lifetime.
Troy, a Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung man, was named Male Artist of the Year and his album The World Today took out the Top Selling Album of the Year. His duet single South with Ian Moss was named Vocal Collaboration of the Year.
Troy and Ian are currently touring the country on the Together Alone Tour.
While the number of Troy’s Golden Guitar awards now sits at 40, Ian took home his first trophy.
“The Country Music Association of Australia (CMAA) awards is probably one of the biggest honours I could have wished for in my career,” Troy told the Koori Mail.
“I want to send my love to Joy, Anne and David Kirkpatrick for their supportive words of encouragement,” he said.
“It means so much to me, and I’m happy to be the gatekeeper for the king that’s for sure – because I will protect and be proud of this music, and be accepting of all styles just like Slim was, as we will have plenty of room to grow.”
